나는 운동권 정서에 대해서 반감을 가지고 있는데 그들의 꼰대성 때문이다. 비슷한 이유로 싫어하는 사람들이 많을 것이다. 정치혐오증이라고 비판 받는 것과 같은 맥락인데 그렇기에 나는 우리 또래의 정치혐오증을 자연스러운 모습이라고 말하고 싶다. 세대 간에는 대충 그려지는 공통적인 위기나 정서가 있다. 한국의 그림은 전후세대는 생물학적 위기, 386세대는 사회적 위기, 지금은 실존적 위기라고 생각한다. 물론 전체적인 대강의 모습이지만. 보수가 북한을 걸고 넘어지는 걸 진보는 고리타분한 것으로 여기는데 실제로도 그렇다. 보수적 입장이라는 젊은이들도 이 이야기를 그대로 듣고 되풀이한다. 문제는 진보에서도 마찬가지인데 운동권 정서를 담습하여 그대로 쏟아낸다. 자신들이 겪었던 위기를 공감해주지 않는 젊은이들은 그들의 시각으로 볼 때 뭘 모르는 어린것들이다. 북한의 위협도 잘 모르고 민주주의 위기도 잘 모른다. 지금도 북한은 위협적이고 민주주의는 언제나 위기지만 우리의 위협과 위기는 북한이나 민주주의가 아니다. 87년도에는 도서관에서 공부하는 학생들을 향해 배신자라고 손가락질해도 그럴법했지만 지금은 그럴 수 없는 것처럼. 할아버지들과 아저씨들의 이야기를 듣고 와서 또래 친구들한테 쯧쯧쯧 혀를 차는 모습을 보면 별로 달갑지가 않다. 특히 운동권 정서는 사회 문제에 관심을 가지라거나 책을 읽으라는 말을 하면서 우월감까지 표출한다. 이런 우월감이 싫기는 하지만 이해할 수는 있다. 원래 정치적 입장이 다른 사람을 보게 되면 사람은 심리적으로 우월감을 느끼게 되고 표출하고 싶어진다. 미국에서 상대방 정당을 지지하는 이유는 무엇일까 설문조사를 했더니 양쪽 모두 1위가 "멍청해서"였다고 한다. (페미니즘 논쟁에서도 남녀진영이 무식하다와 책읽어라가 가장 많이 쓰이는 말이었다.) 이런 마음을 심리학적 용어로 "정치적 혐오감"이라고 한다. 즉, 다시 말하면 정치에 무관심해서 정치혐오증을 가지고 있다고 하는 사람들을 향해서 운동권 정서는 꽤 심하게 정치적 혐오감을 표출해왔다. (남자들이 여자들을 무시하는 방식이기도 했다. 메갈리아에서 민주당 지지 사이트들과 충돌하고 정치 이야기를 하면 극도로 꺼려하는 아이러니함을 보이는 이유 중에 하나.) 자신을 혐오하는 사람에게는 자동적으로 혐오감이 느껴질 수 밖에. 정치 사회에 관심 갖는 건 어쩌면 오타쿠 취급 받는 게 우리 세대에게는 정당할 지도 모른다. 나도 내가 그냥 현실 감각 없는 오타쿠라고 생각한다.
